The SQL Warehouse Developer is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of data warehouse solutions for Irwin Mitchell. They understand requirements, create technical designs, configure applications, write code, and conduct testing. They collaborate with various teams, participate in meetings, and provide technical advice to address concerns. They troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, debug code, investigate failures, support end-users and the maintenance of the solutions. They document the data warehouse development process, including technical specifications. Collaboration with other engineers, testers, and project managers is crucial for successful delivery. They ensure quality and reliability by conducting thorough testing, performing code reviews, and implementing best practices in data warehouse development.
The SQL Warehouse Developer role is a key part in accelerating data value creation at IM and unlocking data’s potential, enabling improved data driven decisions and advanced analytics. This role will ensure IM’s data is optimised to support the needs of colleagues and Clients.
This role will contribute creating an aspirational data culture and underpins a critical pillar of the IM data estate.
What You'll Be Doing
- Designing, developing, optimizing, and maintaining ETL processes and data warehouse solutions using SQL and SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services).
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand complex data requirements and translating them into efficient data models and ETL processes.
- Implementing data integration and transformation workflows to extract, clean, and load data from various sources into an on-premise SQL Datawarehouse.
- Monitoring, updating and optimising existing ETL processes, understanding and documenting current solutions.
- Mentoring and providing technical guidance to junior developers, ensuring adherence to best practices and driving continuous improvement.
- Collaborating closely with BI developers and analysts to understand their requirements and providing data warehousing support for their projects. Monitoring and troubleshooting ETL processes, ensuring data integrity, availability, and security.
- Proven experience as a SQL Developer or Data Engineer, with experience of SQL, SSIS and Data Warehousing.
- Expertise in T-SQL / SQL server for data warehousing tasks, including data extraction, transformation, and loading.
- Experience with BI development tools (i.e. Tableau, Power BI and Crystal Reports) to enable understanding and support of existing BI solutions.
- In-depth understanding of data modelling, ETL development, and data integration techniques.
- Experience of Agile working practices
- Strong documentation skills, experience of using Git and Azure DevOps repositories for version control.
- SQL server security experience
- Experience of working within a Professional services firm
