Solutions Architect (6160)

We’re a national law firm with a local reach. Our legal experts are here for you. Whether it’s personal or business, we understand that everyone’s situation is different. But we’re more than just a law firm – we’re a team of people working together to help individuals and businesses navigate life’s ups and downs. Working here you’ll feel a part of our friendly and inclusive environment.

We’ll value you for who you are and what you bring. We support each other and push boundaries to achieve incredible things and make a real difference to our clients and communities.

We're always looking to support our colleagues to work in a way that works best for them and everyone else, including our clients, the business and the regulators. Please speak to a member of our Recruitment and Onboarding team for more information.

Your Role and What You'll Be Doing

About the Role

Irwin Mitchell is investing significantly in its data and analytics capability and is looking for an experienced Solutions Architect to play a pivotal role in shaping our data architecture.

This role will initially focus on the architectural design and evolution of our Lakehouse platform, before broadening into how data services, APIs, and emerging AI capabilities sit on top of that foundation. It’s a genuinely strategic opportunity to help move the organisation beyond reporting, enabling automation, insight‑led workflows, and AI‑driven decision‑making across the business.

You’ll operate as a design authority rather than a hands‑on developer, working closely with Architecture, Data Engineering, Analytics, Insight, and senior stakeholders across the firm.

About You

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the solution and architectural design of the firm’s Lakehouse platform, ensuring it supports core management systems and other large‑scale enterprise platforms
  • Design how data is exposed and consumed through API‑led architectures, enabling scalable data sharing and automation across the business
  • Shape the future data ecosystem, integrating new internal and external data sources into the Lakehouse
  • Work with data analytics, engineering, and insight teams to ensure architecture supports advanced analytics, Power BI, and operational use cases
  • Define how data outputs embed into downstream systems and workflows (e.g. Microsoft Dynamics, 3E, SuccessFactors)
  • Act as a key advisor to system owners across the business, helping them access and leverage data safely and effectively
  • Partner with Procurement to ensure any new technology aligns with the Lakehouse and wider architectural standards
  • Contribute to future‑state thinking around AI‑enabled solutions, including automation, recommendations, and insight‑driven workflows
  • Produce high‑quality architecture artefacts (logical, physical, integration designs) and present them clearly to technical and non‑technical stakeholders

This is a design‑led Solutions Architect role — you’ll guide and assure solutions rather than write production code.

The Technology Environment

  • Lakehouse architecture (Databricks)
  • Azure‑based data platform
  • API‑led integration and API Management
  • Power BI built directly on the Lakehouse
  • Strong alignment with the Microsoft ecosystem (Dynamics, Azure DevOps, enterprise platforms)

What We’re Looking For

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience in a Solutions Architect role, ideally within large, complex organisations
  • Strong understanding of modern data architectures, including:
    • Data pipelines and data at scale
    • API‑based data integration
    • Lakehouse concepts and platforms (e.g. Databricks)
  • Experience designing solutions within regulated environments
  • Comfortable working across business and technology teams, influencing senior stakeholders
  • Experience producing clear architectural designs and governance artefacts

Desirable Experience

  • Exposure to AI, machine learning or automation use cases, such as recommendation engines, next‑best‑action, or GenAI
  • Experience within professional services or similarly complex, knowledge‑led organisations

Team & Stakeholders

You’ll join a well‑established architecture community, working alongside:

  • Architecture Team including Solutions and Enterprise Architects, all with a strong cloud focus
  • Data Analytics, Data Engineering, and Insight leaders
  • System owners, senior business stakeholders, and Procurement teams
Our Benefits - What We Can Offer You
  • 25 days holidays as standard plus bank holidays - You can ‘buy’ up to 35hrs of extra holiday too.
  • Generous and flexible pension schemes.
  • Volunteering days – Two days of volunteering every year for a cause of your choice (fully paid)
  • Westfield Health membership, offering refunds on medical services alongside our Aviva Digital GP services.

We also offer a wide range of well-being initiatives to encourage positive mental health both in and out of the workplace and to make sure you’re fully supported.  This includes our Flexible by Choice programme which gives our colleagues more choice over a hybrid way of working subject to role, team and client requirements.

We have been ranked in the Best Workplaces for Wellbeing for Large Organisations for 2024!

Our responsible business programmes are fundamental to who we are and our purpose. We’re committed to being a diverse and inclusive workplace where our colleagues can flourish, and we have established a number of inclusion network groups across our business to support this aim.

Our commitment to Social Responsibility, community investment activity and tackling climate change is a fundamental part of who we are. It’s made up of four strands: Our People, Our Community, Our Environment and Our Pro Bono.
