Job description
Solicitor (3512)
We’re a national law firm with a local reach. Our philosophy is ‘Expert Hand, Human Touch’ – something you’ll find in the way we work with our clients and how we support our teams. But we’re more than just a law firm – we’re a team of people working together to help individuals and businesses navigate life’s ups and downs. Working here you’ll feel a part of our friendly and inclusive environment. We’ll value you for who you are and what you bring. We support each other and push boundaries to achieve incredible things and make a real difference to our clients and communities.
We are always looking to support our colleagues in working in a way that best works for them. Please do speak to one of our Talent Acquisition Team to find out more information about our flexible working policies, including working from home.
We are looking to add a talented Solicitor to our Serious Injury team to be based in Bristol or Cardiff.
Our Serious Injury team represents adults and children with life-changing injuries, across South Wales and the South West of England. You’ll join the experienced team led by Partners James Davies, who has nearly 25 years’ experience in this field, and Deborah Rose.
The team represents clients with severe brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, amputations and polytrauma as well as supporting bereaved families in fatal accident cases. The team regularly achieves multi-million pound settlements and has been top-ranked in the Legal 500 and Chambers UK for many years. We work closely with major trauma centres, rehabilitation units, charities and the police to ensure that our clients receive the best possible rehabilitation and support.
This is a Bristol or Cardiff based role, and there will be a requirement to be in both the Bristol or Cardiff office one or two times per week.
You’ll have the opportunity to work alongside lawyers at the top of their field, running a specialist caseload of catastrophic injury cases. Right from the beginning you’ll play a key part in securing rehabilitation for our clients and making a real difference in their lives.
You’ll have the confidence to hit the ground-running and the ability to work as part of a team. The role will be highly rewarding, but you’ll have to be resilient and calm whilst putting your client’s needs first at all times. This role is open to anyone based in the South Wales or South West region. We adopt a truly flexible approach, meaning that you will have a high degree of choice about where and when you work, however there will be office presence required.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Developing your own caseload, and co-working with the Partner and senior team members on high value cases.
- Developing relationships with clinicians, other medical professionals and charities to provide an exceptional client experience and raise profile.
- Attending seminars, workshops, training events and other business development activities.
About you

- Experience in serious injury litigation (ideally in South Wales or the South West).
- Strong appetite for business development / existing business development contacts.
- Proven experience of handling your own cases, including your own litigated cases.
- A clear enthusiasm for this area of law and a commitment to securing the best outcomes for your clients.
- Operate independently and as part of a team to deliver the best outcomes for our clients alongside other team members.
- An ability to work with empathy and integrity.
- Flexible working options - Make work fit around your life, not the other way around.
- Up to 25 days holidays as standard - You can ‘buy’ up to 35hrs of extra holiday too
- Generous and flexible pension schemes.
- Volunteering days – Two days of volunteering every year for a cause of your choice (fully paid!)
- Westfield Health membership, offering refunds on medical services alongside our Aviva Digital GP services.
We also offer a huge number of well-being initiatives to encourage positive mental health both in and out of the workplace to make sure you’re fully supported to work the way that best suits you. We have been ranked in the Best Workplaces for Wellbeing for Large Organisations for 2023.
Our social responsibility programme is fundamental to who we are. We’re committed to being a diverse and inclusive workplace where our colleagues can flourish. We have a range of groups to celebrate our people across sexuality, disability, age, gender and culture
