Your Role and What You'll Be Doing

Irwin Mitchell is committed building operations that are resilient and able to recover quickly when something unexpected happens, whilst protecting are client services and colleagues are supported

We require an experienced senior manager to work directly with IM’s Head of Risk, Resilience and Internal Audit to direct and manage IM’s resilience strategy, implementing a robust, outcome focused operational resilience framework incorporating an effective and efficient incident response program and a comprehensive business continuity program aligned with the achievement of IM strategic goals.

This role will work collaboratively will all areas of IM and including areas regulated by the SRA and FCA.

Availability outside of office hours will occasionally be required to support the successful resolution incidents.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • To lead the ongoing development, management and embedding of IM’s Operational Resilience Framework focusing on protecting essential outcomes and and meeting the needs of relevant regulation
  • Leadership of IM’s business continuity programme
  • Review and continually improve the mapping of underlying supporting assets
  • Review and refine the resilience controls/metrics used to assess vulnerability of mapped assets
  • Coordinate and oversee regular completion of resilience assessments
  • Govern the process of identifying, classifying and prioritising specific vulnerabilities
  • Govern the execution of vulnerability remediation and leading compliance with agreed risk appetites
  • Lead on the identification and implementation of continuous improvement strategies across resilience processes and procedures
  • Lead on the development and management of a centralised repository of documented workarounds and playbooks, ensuring those documents are kept up to date and maintained
  • To manage IM’s incident response process both in and out of normal office working hours and coordinate IM’s incident response to protect essential outcomes and effectively restore services
  • Drive lessons learnt activity and support the implementation of actions to improve IM incident response and improve business continuity
  • Monitor changes within the resilience industry and lead changes to enhance the resilience framework
  • Mentor, coach and oversee activity completed by other team members to support the continuous growth of team capability
  • Manage and maintain compliance at all times with relevant governance, IM resilience policy and internal SLAs as agreed
  • Build strong relationships across IM and particular IT to improve IM’s Disaster Recovery strategy
  • Maintaining a dynamic and engaging approach to resilience management through the delivery of an embedding programme, ensuring that Resilience and best practice is embedded at all levels within the organisation
  • Monitor all targets and measures set ensuring the management and maintenance of documentary evidence
  • Lead external responsible business reporting with regards to resilience
  • Liaise with relevant external bodies and play an active role in representing Irwin Mitchell at any external committees or groups as appropriate
  • Provide opportunities for our wider communities to engage in Irwin Mitchell’s resilience related activities.
  • Providing expert advice and guidance to all aspects of the Group on their Resilience requirements, being a trusted partner and using expert knowledge to recommend continued development opportunities of resilience strategies


About You

Ideally the successful candidate will have the following:

  • Strong experience in leading resilience teams and embedding a robust business continuity and incident response programme with focus on protecting essential outcomes
  • Collaborative personality that leads change and brings people together
  • Gravitas to manage and influence a wide range of stakeholders across the IM
  • Strong technical understanding of Resilience frameworks and concepts
  • Experience leading the delivery of Business Continuity and Incident Response Program in a multi-sited medium to large firm
  • Experience in leading Resilience teams
  • Demonstrable record of supporting businesses through times of disruption
  • Stakeholder management skills and the ability to communicate and influence senior management in the organisation
  • Proven high organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously
  • Ability to identify and present creative yet practical opportunities and solutions
  • Ability to drive through innovations and best practices from concept to implementation.
  • Proven experience of successfully influencing within technical and executive communities
