We have a fantastic opportunity for a Paralegal to join our Court of Protection department in our Sheffield office.
The team has a strong reputation in dealing with the full range of Court of Protection services along with the management of personal injury damages via both deputyships and personal injury trusts. The Court of Protection is the judicial body in England and Wales responsible for individuals who lack capacity to manage their finances and has power to appoint a Deputy to manage property and affairs. We advise on making applications to the Court of Protection including property and affairs deputyships, Statutory Wills, gifts on behalf of incapacitated individuals, and the establishment and administration of trust along with dealing with the ongoing management of individuals’ property and affairs.
We have dedicated departments located in Newcastle, Leeds, Southampton, Sheffield, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge and London that provide a specialist nationwide service. Our team based approach means we work with colleagues to combine legal expertise from financial management, planning, investment, taxation and accounting to the Court.
As a Paralegal, you’ll carry out case handling duties, helping other case handlers to manage an individual’s financial affairs. This is a busy and demanding role, where duties are diverse and no two days are the same. You’ll be carrying out various tasks such as research, preparation of budgets, financial management, preparation of legal documents within set guidelines etc. To meet your monthly targets you’ll need to be experienced in multi-tasking and keeping to tight deadlines. Whilst planning and prioritising will be the key to your success, you’ll also need to be flexible and quick to respond to requests at short notice. You’ll be experienced in following set guidelines and processes, but with the ability and confidence to use your own judgement where required.To be successful in this role you must:• Have appropriate legal knowledge and experience to support qualified Case Handlers to progress legal cases.• Be organised and have the ability to work quickly and accurately in a growing and demanding area of the business to meet personal targets.• Be proactive and able to work independently and as part of a team to deliver the best outcomes for our clients.• Be able to produce high quality written work and have a high level of accuracy when working with figures.• Have excellent client care and inter-personal skills, operating with integrity and showing empathy and intuition.• Be comfortable using new IT systems.• Completion of Law degree and/or Legal Practice Course would be an advantage; however we would also welcome applicants who are well established Paralegals looking to forge a new career with IM.
