We are looking for an experienced Paralegal to join our International Serious Injury team in our Manchester office.
International Serious Injury
The personal injury teams at Irwin Mitchell don’t just deal with compensation claims. We also work with our clients and their families to ensure all of their rehabilitation needs are met. It’s a unique, bespoke approach that really makes a difference to people whose lives have been turned upside down by injury.
The International Personal Injury team acts exclusively for individuals who have sustained injuries as a result of accidents abroad. The team deals with employers’ liability, package holiday, cruise, RTA, clinical negligence and public liability matters. Many of our clients have suffered catastrophic injuries and the role will involve some travel to meet clients and family members and to attend Court hearings and conferences with experts and / or counsel.
These claims are based in negligence, breach of contract, misrepresentation and breach of statutory duty. A key understanding of all of these areas will be essential to the successful prosecution of claims on behalf of Claimants. Experience in travel litigation is desirable but not essential, as training and supervision will be provided.

As a Paralegal you will play an integral role in the team, working together with qualified Case Handlers to provide legal support on a number of cases to deliver an outstanding client experience and progress litigation. You will be responsible for ensuring that client queries are dealt with quickly, efficiently and with empathy, taking appropriate actions. You will work independently under supervision and as part of a team to progress cases in accordance with the department’s procedures to meet agreed personal targets. You’ll liaise regularly with a wide range of clients and medical professionals, in person, over the phone and in writing. Whether arranging meetings, seeking medical reports, chasing information, or interviewing witnesses; you’ll need to show a sensitive and professional approach at all times.
We are looking for enthusiastic and committed applicants, who can demonstrate that they will thrive on working in a busy environment. Ideally we are looking for candidates with around two years’ experience in claimant PI claims. It will be helpful (not essential) if suitable candidates have experience of international cases involving elements of foreign law and/or cross border disputes. Foreign language skills would also be helpful, but are not essential.
Candidates will need to have excellent client care and communication skills, as the role will involve assisting with client communication and liaising with other professionals. The successful candidate will need to show that they can cope well under pressure and maintain excellent time management skills, with the ability to multi-task and keep to tight deadlines.
