Job description
Paralegal - Court of Protection (5842)
We’re a national law firm with a local reach. Our legal experts are here for you. Whether it’s personal or business, we understand that everyone’s situation is different. But we’re more than just a law firm – we’re a team of people working together to help individuals and businesses navigate life’s ups and downs. Working here you’ll feel a part of our friendly and inclusive environment.
We’ll value you for who you are and what you bring. We support each other and push boundaries to achieve incredible things and make a real difference to our clients and communities.
We're always looking to support our colleagues to work in a way that works best for them and everyone else, including our clients, the business and the regulators. Please speak to a member of our Recruitment and Onboarding team for more information.
This role is offered as a 12-month fixed-term contract.
The Court of Protection is the judicial body responsible for making decisions regarding the management of finances and other affairs for individuals who lack the mental capacity to do so themselves.
As one of the UK’s leading firms of solicitors, we have a dedicated and experienced team specialising in all matters relating to the Court of Protection. We assist:
- Clients responsible for managing someone else’s affairs
- Those concerned about another person’s ability to manage their own affairs
- Individuals worried about their own capacity to manage their affairs
If you enjoy being part of a successful, friendly, and high-performing team, this is the role for you.
You’ll be a key point of contact for our clients, many of whom have life-changing disabilities such as serious brain injuries, dementia, and mental health illnesses. You’ll help these individuals manage their financial affairs and work closely with the team’s Associates and Partners to ensure they have the right support at all times.
This is a busy and fast-paced role, so you’ll need to work quickly and accurately while building strong relationships with your team and our clients.
Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
- Taking instructions from clients and assisting with the provision of legal advice, including obtaining evidence and, where appropriate, supporting litigation to achieve appropriate resolutions
- Achieving time recording and fee income targets to ensure profitable working
- Attending and contributing to team/practice area meetings and complying with directions/decisions to achieve team objectives
- Keeping up to date with changes in relevant law and practice and attending appropriate training events to maintain legal knowledge and best practice
- Enthusiasm, a can-do attitude, and willingness to contribute to the team
- Previous paralegal experience (desirable but not essential)
- Ability to work on your own initiative
- Excellent accuracy and attention to detail
- Practical experience in a similar role
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
