The Medico Legal Records (MLR) Team Leader is responsible for line managing a large team of Medico Legal Records nurses to ensure smooth delivery of the sorting and paginating of medical records. They directly line manage a large and geographically dispersed team of medical professionals, ensuring they provide an excellent in-house service and that work is carried out in a manner that meets all internally agreed Service Levels. The Team Leader will also deputise for the MLR Manager during periods of absence or where required.

Your Role

The key responsibilities of this role will be:

People & Resource Management

  • Manage a motivated and highly skilled team of between 20-30 nurses responsible for sorting, indexing and paginating medical records to support with case progression
  • Hold One to Ones's, team meetings and performance reviews with all direct reports, ensuring the team have access to development opportunities, training and support
  • Monitor and manage the performance of their direct reports, including efficiency, utilisation and quality of work
  • Support MLR Manager with monitoring utilisation and capacity of the wider team, supporting them with the recruitment of new team members where required
  • Work closely with MLR Assistant to ensure resource plans are in place to meet any anticipated changes to workload demands

Service Delivery

  • Support the MLR Manager with the development of tools and processes to help drive the performance of the team, identifying opportunities to provide a more efficient and cost-effective internal service
  • Working alongside the MLR Manager & Assistant, put processes in place to manage peaks and troughs in workload to ensure Service Level Agreements continue to be met consistently for all teams throughout the year
  • Quality check work of direct reports
  • Ensure procedures for complaints and urgent work requests are followed and support with the resolution of any issues and complaints

Management Support

  • Deputise for the MLR Manager if and when required
  • Lead on allocation of work in absence of MLR Assistant

What we need from you

Ideally the successful candidate will have:

  • Supervisory and people management experience
  • Previous administrative experience
  • Good organisation and time management skills
  • Confident handling data and information
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Spelling and grammar of excellent standard
  • Flair for document presentation
  • Experience in Microsoft Office functionality, particularly Excel
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to build relationships with range of people
  • Confidential, friendly and professional manner
  • Positively embraces and leads change, acting as a role model to others
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work autonomously with limited supervision
  • Work on own initiative
