We are looking for an In-House Solicitor to join our General Counsel Team and can be flexible as to location.

Your Role and What You'll Be Doing

Our Team

The General Counsel Team (GCT) is made up of several teams with a common goal to support One IM better. Our team supports the IM Group and every person in the business to understand the laws, regulations and contractual obligations that effect what we do, this can include buying things, supplying our legal services to clients, or running our firm and our personal training and development.

Your Role – what you’ll be doing:

In GCT, we’re keen to have you on board if you are a great team player and willing to learn quickly. It’s a fantastic opportunity to gain real, hands-on experience in a law firm.

As an In-House Solicitor in our non-contentious team, you will be responsible for providing strategic and pragmatic legal, regulatory and commercial advice to stakeholders across the IM Group, as required. Your key responsibilities and accountabilities will include:

  • Understand IM’s strategic growth objectives and align the team’s service delivery
  • Partner with senior leaders and business areas across IM Group for visibility of incoming work and manage operational resourcing and allocation
  • Support strategic projects and ensure delivery of practical legal and commercial advice
  • Support the team in delivering clear and pragmatic legal advice
  • Continually explore and drive legal operational efficiencies to improve service delivery to stakeholders
  • Review, advise on and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts within the contracting parameters and risk appetite set by IM’s Group entities
  • Resolve BAU and ad-hoc queries with a particular focus on commercial and strategic enablement, and deal with complex queries with guidance and supervision
  • Understand key operations of each Practice Area and Group Services and ensure legal advice is contextual, pragmatic and commercial
  • Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across the IM Group
  • Identify and escalate potential risks, compliance or reputational concerns
  • Develop a strong understanding of key regulators underpinning the operations of each IM Group entity, e.g., SRA, FCA, ICO, ASA, CAP rules, relevant legislation and guidance
  • Undertake legal research and identify any relevant legal and regulatory changes that may impact IM Group
  • Support GCT and wider firm projects
  • Meet personal KPIs and also work as part of a team to ensure GCT meets its wider KPIs
  • Be commercially enabling when responding to and resolving queries

About You

What we’ll need from you:

  • You will be a qualified Solicitor/Legal Executive/Barrister
  • You will have some experience of in-house and/or private practice Corporate / Commercial Law and Contracts
  • You will be able to analyse legal problems, provide interpretation and make recommendations
  • Experience in managing competing and ever-changing priorities whilst delivering objectives
  • You will have confidence to challenge in a positive and constructive manner when it is in the interests of the Group and the matter in question
  • Great communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Good initiative to work independently and part of a team
  • Strong time management and organisation skills
  • Attention to detail
  • To build and maintain strong and lasting relationships with stakeholders across the IM Group
