Your Role and What You'll Be Doing

We are recruiting for two fixed-term contract opportunities:

  • 1 x 6 Month FTC
  • 1 x 12 Month FTC

As an HR Assistant, you'll join our friendly and supportive People Services team, the first point of contact for a wide range of HR queries across the business. Whilst we're a small team, we're a busy one, providing essential support throughout the employee lifecycle.

From day one, you'll gain exposure to a broad range of HR activities, with work shared across the team to ensure everyone develops a well-rounded understanding of HR operations.

What's in It for You?

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on HR experience within a large professional services organisation. You'll play an important role in delivering an exceptional service to colleagues across the business while developing your HR knowledge and skills.

No two days are the same, and you'll be involved in a variety of HR processes, giving you valuable experience across multiple areas of people operations. You'll also receive regular support and development through monthly one-to-one meetings with your Team Leader, helping you build your confidence and progress your HR career.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Preparing and processing offer letters and employment documentation.
  • Completing HR compliance checks, including right to work verification and pre-employment screening.
  • Supporting the onboarding of new starters, as well as coordinating internal moves and leavers.
  • Responding to a wide range of employee queries, including absence management, annual leave, family leave and HR system support.
  • Working closely with colleagues across HR and Payroll to resolve queries efficiently and provide a seamless employee experience.
  • Building positive relationships across the business through clear, professional and effective communication.
  • Providing administrative and project support for wider HR Operations initiatives and improvement projects

About You

We're looking for people that are organised, proactive and passionate about delivering excellent customer service. You'll enjoy working as part of a team while confidently managing a varied workload in a fast-paced environment.

You'll bring:

  • Previous HR administration experience.
  • Knowledge of pre-employment screening processes and right to work requirements.
  • A professional, approachable and confidential manner, with the ability to handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work accurately and efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to support colleagues at all levels across the business.
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to share ideas, knowledge and best practice with the wider team
Our Approach to Reward and Wellbeing
  • 25 days' holiday as standard, rising to 28 days depending on role level, plus bank holidays and the option to purchase additional leave.
  • Opportunities to share in our success through annual pay and bonus review processes for eligible colleagues.
  • Health and wellbeing support, including Westfield Health and Digital GP access.
  • Competitive pension arrangements to help you plan for the future.
  • Two paid volunteering days every year to support causes that matter to you.
  • Access to a range of colleague discounts and lifestyle benefits to support you both inside and outside of work.

We also offer a wide range of well-being initiatives to encourage positive mental health both in and out of the workplace and to make sure you’re fully supported.

In 2026, Irwin Mitchell was recognised in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work guide and was the only law firm included in the 'Very Big' organisation category
