This role is focused on ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of financial controls across the firm. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and validating key financial processes, particularly those involving fee earners, disbursements, and time recording. They will address queries from fee earners, ensuring that financial controls such as authority levels, time recording accuracy, and fee earner transfers are being followed correctly and consistently. The role involves analysing responses to monthly Financial Compliance & Valuation processes, investigating non-recoverable work-in-progress, and supporting external audit requirements.
Working closely with compliance managers, the analyst will help maintain regulatory standards, contribute to month-end reporting, and support continuous improvement in financial governance. This is a hands-on role requiring strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively across departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Validate fee earner responses to the monthly Financial Compliance & Valuation (FCV) process, focusing on disbursement recoverability.
- Prepare analysis on historic disbursement write-offs to inform financial provisions.
- Provide audit support, including disbursement and provision data for external auditors.
- Deliver analysis to support Financial Control decisions, including WIP transfers and non-recoverable WIP investigations.
- Collaborate with compliance managers to ensure adherence to SRA Accounts Rules and internal controls.
- Manage residual balance reporting and month-end compliance reports.
- Oversee Legal Aid Agency recoupment and Premex accrual reporting.
Experience & Skills Required
Essential:
- Experience in analytical roles with a proactive, inquisitive mindset.
- Strong Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, lookups, index match, sumifs).
- Excellent numerical and analytical ability.
- Prior experience working in a legal / Regulated environment
Desirable:
- Familiarity with financial controls and process improvement
- Experience supporting external audits.
