Financial Accountant - Captive Cells (1479)

Your Role

We have an exciting new opportunity to join our Finance Team. You’ll be tasked with all aspects of accounting and financial control around the four Guernsey based captive insurance cells within the Irwin Mitchell group, which deal with the After the Event (ATE) insurance policies we purchase for clients. we purchase for clients. Your role will be responsible for bringing together the accounting, management, forecasting and reconciliation aspects within the finance team, however, as this is a new role, you’ll be given the opportunity to shape and develop this role.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Quarterly review of management accounts for the four captive cell companies, including reconciliation to underlying records.
• Overseeing of claims, assisting the ATE administrator with problem areas and reporting of outstanding and unsuccessful claims.
• Detailed analysis of cells performance and claims, and reporting back to management.
• Work with the rest of the financial control team to develop a detailed understanding of disbursements, including working on monthly review of risk areas, provisioning and identification of areas for improvement.
• Co-ordinating the follow up of concluded matters from the quarterly matter balance valuation.
• Having full responsibility for certain group balance sheet areas alongside the Financial Accountant, such as leases and fixed assets.
• Assisting the Head of Financial Control as otherwise required.

What We’re Looking For

• Excellent technical knowledge, including up to date UK GAAP and IFRS knowledge
• Experience of working in audit and financial accounts, preferably within a large accountancy practice.
• ACA or ACCA qualified
• Ideally, you’ll have proven experience of captive insurance cell accounting or other insurance or financial services, but this isn’t essential.
• Advanced spreadsheets skills to understand and develop complex computer models with little supervision.
• Advanced Word and PowerPoint skills.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
