We are looking for a Legal Director to join our leading Medical Negligence team, based in our Newcastle office.

Our team has extensive experience across a broad range of complex medical negligence claims, including birth injuries, surgical errors, delayed diagnosis, mental health negligence and fatal claims.

You’ll join our Newcastle team, led by Partner Samuel Hill. Sam leads one of the largest specialist claimant medical negligence teams in the North East and the team acts exclusively for patients in complex, high-value and sensitive claims against NHS and private healthcare providers.

As a Legal Director, you’ll play a key role in the continued development of the Newcastle practice, providing technical leadership while supporting clients through some of the most challenging circumstances of their lives.

You’ll be involved in:

• Managing your own caseload of complex, high-value and litigated medical negligence claims.
• Leading matters across a broad range of medical disciplines, ensuring clients receive clear, compassionate and commercially focused advice.
• Building trusted relationships with clients, medical experts, counsel and other professional contacts.
• Supporting the strategic growth of the team through business development, networking and profile-raising activity.
• Developing junior lawyers, helping them build their technical expertise and confidence.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues across our national Medical Negligence practice and the wider firm to provide a seamless service to clients.
• Contributing to the leadership, performance and future direction of the Newcastle team.

We’re looking for an established medical negligence lawyer who combines strong technical expertise with leadership qualities and a genuine commitment to improving clients’ lives.

You will ideally:

• Have significant experience of medical negligence work, including managing complex and high-value claims.
• Demonstrate excellent technical judgement and the ability to provide clear, pragmatic and sensitive advice.
• Have experience of supervising, mentoring or developing other lawyers.
• Be confident building and maintaining strong client and professional relationships.
• Show a proactive approach to business development and growing the profile of the team.
• Work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative national practice.
• Share our commitment to securing the best possible outcomes for clients while supporting them with compassion and clarity.
