Job description

Solicitor - Medical Negligence (6384)

Your Role and What You'll Be Doing

You’ll be joining Sara Burns who is one of our Partners in the Medical Negligence team in Birmingham. Her team handles a broad and varied caseload, including birth injury, brain injury, stroke, fatal claims and other complex clinical negligence matters. The work is often high-value, sensitive and procedurally demanding, so we are looking for someone who is confident working across a wide range of claims and who brings strong litigation experience.

As a key member of the team, you’ll play a vital role in supporting clients through some of the most challenging times in their lives. You’ll be involved in:

  • Managing a varied caseload of complex claimant medical negligence cases, including litigated matters.
  • Delivering excellent client care with empathy and compassion.
  • Working collaboratively within nationally recognised specialist teams.
  • Building strong relationships with clients, experts, counsel and healthcare professionals.
  • Supporting vulnerable clients and their families through sensitive and often life changing situations.
  • Driving claims forward strategically through investigation, pleadings, expert evidence, disclosure, settlement negotiations and, where required, trial preparation.
  • Contributing to team development, business development activities and the firm's reputation as a leading claimant practice.
About You

We’re looking for someone who combines technical excellence with genuine empathy:

  • 3–5 years PQE, ideally with a background in claimant work, and experience handling complex, high-value or procedurally demanding claims.
  • Strong transferable litigation skills, including working to court timetables, preparing cases for key procedural stages, managing expert evidence and progressing matters efficiently and commercially.
  • The ability to take instructions from clients, analyse complex evidence and give clear, practical legal advice.
  • Demonstrable experience assisting seniors on high-value, complex and strategically important cases.
  • The ability to operate independently and work collaboratively as part of a team to deliver the best outcomes for our clients.

You’ll be joining a forward-thinking and supportive team that values compassion, excellence and impact. If you have the litigation experience, technical ability and client-focused approach needed to work across a diverse and demanding caseload, we’d love to hear from you.
